Remember the Ladies

“I should be writing …”
― Mur Lafferty

And I suppose I am writing. Here. Now. The keyboard is laid at before me, the screen blank white. But what I should be writing is fiction — my love, my passion. There is nothing like it in the world. Creating characters from nothingness, giving them hopes and dreams and foibles and a enumerable challenges to overcome and grapple with. As someone on the internet once said, “life is so much more interesting in my head.”

And so I write. Historical fiction. Usually with an ancient bent, but sometimes I venture into the 11th or 15th or even 20th centuries. I write about women, about the lives they lived, the struggles they faced, and the obstacles they overcame. I love what I do. It makes me feel alive.

So welcome to my little world. Cruise around the site, make yourself comfortable. Stop by just this once or follow me if you wish. I’m glad you’re here.:)

    Hi Kate,

I quite agree, we should always remember the ladies. And so many fascinating women there were. Being an artist, I always lament the fact that women weren’t allowed to study art for centuries unless their father was a famous artist and then it was just indulged as a treat. It wasn’t until the early to mid-20th century that they began to have a voice. All those anonymous striving women deserve a spotlight.

Oh and feel free to check out my blog too. I post poetry, prose, and mainly art as well as just my musings on life. Below is my latest poem, just a shortie.

    Thanks
    Nina 🙂

  2. Hi Nina 🙂

Thanks for the comment! I think of all the women — artists, writers, musicians — who were silenced throughout history, and it makes me wonder what we as a species lost. And sadly, what are we losing now in societies where women are still forbidden to express themselves artistically?

I look forward to checking out your blog. Heading there now :).

I love historical fiction, so glad that you are focusing on the ladies, giving a voice to this who for so long were mostly silenced. Your voice is an important one.

  4. Hi CAS 🙂

Thanks for stopping by! I agree, we ladies have been silenced for too long throughout history. I hope to bring a few of the more unique and influential and lesser-known ones to my blog.

    Thanks again,
    Kate 🙂
